Oil / Energy

Machine tools for the demanding thread-making process

For years, Okuma has served the challenging needs of oil and energy manufacturers. As the industry’s only single-source provider, we manufacture the entire CNC machining system, including the machine, drive units, motors, encoders, spindles, software, and control to provide a synergistic system that delivers greater reliability and higher performance. Our CNC machines have a reputation for standing strong and stable even when threading long lengths of pipe at high rates of speed, as well as a documented track record of 90 months (7.5 years) “mean time between failure,” which translates directly to overall user profitability.

At Okuma, we offer a broad, diversified selection of machine tool products and configurations for oil and energy, which includes horizontal CNC lathes, double column machining centers, and turning functionalities. For example, our MULTUS horizontal CNC lathes, due to their high accuracy and reliability, are perfect for the challenges of manufacturing directional drilling components. Downhole instrumentation drives added pressure to produce strong pipes, threads, and telemetry components that stand up to the rigors of mapping and establishing wells; Okuma machine tools are ready for the challenge.

大熊町’s CNC machining solutions are also used to produce parts for a variety of oil patch applications, including:

  • OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods)
  • Oil Couplings: Manufacturing efficiencies through the use of automation
  • Downhole Instrumentation: Strength in machining tough exotic materials
  • Frac Pumps: Strength for the rigors of hydraulic fracturing
  • Pump Jack Components: Sucker rods, arms, and stanchions
  • Casting Molds for Rock Bits: Strong machining solutions for the abrasive carbon material used in casting molds
  • Fishing Products
  • Perforating Guns

In addition, the following features and capabilities help our oil and energy customers achieve their manufacturing goals:

CNC Controls:Our OSP-P300 control is built using the Windows®-based, open-architecture platform. You can send production orders to your MRP systems right from the machine tool, track production with scanned barcodes, and generate reports to share with the management team.

Threading Suite:Our Threading Suite (Thread Phase Matching, Variable Spindle Speed Threading, and Harmonic Spindle Speed Control) includes control technologies designed specifically for oil and energy CNC machining and enables the most accurate, complete, and productive thread-making process.

Hand Scraping:Since every Okuma machine is hand scraped on each mating surface, you can produce more parts over a longer timeframe. The result is increased accuracy, decreased costs, and maximized profitability for your operation.

智能技术:From our Thermo-Friendly Concept to Turn-Cut, and from our cycle time reduction function to part accountability and traceability, our innovations are designed to maximize efficiency, and streamline your oil/energy operation.

Customer Care:With our vast distribution network, you have 24/7/365 access to support, which includes $200 million parts inventory worldwide, $40 million parts inventory at Okuma in North Carolina, and $20 million distributor parts inventory in North America.

Partners in THINC:With our best-in-class technology partners we efficiently fulfill high-volume requirements such as in-process and post-process gaging, as well as offer seamless integration with peripheral equipment like barfeeders and robotics.
